University of California, Berkeley (Master's Students only)

The exchange program with the University of California – Berkeley provides master’s students the opportunity to spend a semester or academic year at one of America’s most world renowned universities.

Courses taken at the University of California, Berkeley, can be counted towards your degree program at the LMU, so that the duration of your studies remains unaffected by your time abroad.

Program Costs and Financing

Students taking part in the Berkeley program are responsible for providing their own funds for living and travel expenses, as well as for tuition fees. The tuition fees for exchange students at UC Berkeley, are approximately 10,000 – 15,000 USD per semester.

Should you be selected for the Berkeley program, we would gladly help you with the application for a LMU Prosa-Scholarship (German). However, please note that Prosa provides only a small stipend, which is not sufficient to cover the program costs.

Applicants for the Berkeley program should exhibit outstanding performance during their studies.

The application for the Berkeley exchange program requires three letters of recommendation. You must provide two copies of each letter of recommendation, each in their own sealed envelope (there should be 6 envelopes in total).

Detailed information regarding the application for exchange programs through the LMU Department of Economics can be found under "Application".

If you would like to apply, please visit Prof. Dr. Uwe Sunde during his office hours before the start of the application period. You can arrange an appointment with the secretary
